This parish has many outreach ministries, including mission trips ad service outreach programs. Oysters & Pearls
This US & Uganda based charity was founded by Sandra Washburn of Texas. Oysters & Pearls is an ongoing educational program inclusive of the blind with emphasis on teaching science, technology, engineering and math to students in Africa, primarily Uganda. They are also working with students on other educational curriculum such as wildlife, conservation and sports. They advocate opportunities for women. Mission Madera was able to connect through them at the suggestion of one of the vendors for blind supplies who thought we could benefit from working together. We now have joint projects whereby Oysters and Pearls is providing onsite teacher training as well as direct work with the students of Madera. They were instrumental in assisting with the installation and training of the JAWS program which opens the internet and computer world to blind or partially sighted students. There will be more joint efforts with Mission Madera and Oysters & Pearls...we have much in common and the same goal of lending a hand to the vulnerable children of Uganda.
